  • What kinds of private messages are acceptable at YapStar?
YapStar Private Messaging is a way for pet lovers to connect with like minded people. No commercial, advertisements, bulk messages, harrassing or abusive messages are allowed. Additionally, If a user does not reply, or asks that all communication stop, this must be respected at all times.
If you've received a message that contains a violation, please forward the message immediately to yap@yapstar.com. To make sure that YapStar is a safe environment where all members are respected, we investigate all reports of inappropriate behavior. Any user who violates these rules, will be removed from YapStar.

  • How do I send a private message to another user?
On YapStar you can send private messages to your friends in a number of places on the site as follows:
  • On all Pet's Profile Pages, click on the link that says, "Send Me A Private Message".
  • When a user reviews a Pet Business or Pet Product, you will see an icon below the review that says, "Private Message". Click on this icon.
  • On PetTalk, when a user either asks a question or responds to a question, you will see an icon below the PetTalk that says, "Private Message". Click on this icon.
 
Just click on the links as shown above and you can then write a message just like an email. Click on "Send Message" and your friend will be able to view your message in their inbox. They'll also receive an email letting them know they have a new message to read unless they have disabled this function in their account profile.
You can also go directly to your Private Profile Page and click on the tab, "Messages" and then click on "Write Message" and follow the directions.
Please be respectful when sending a message to other YapStar members, especially people you don't know.

  • How do I access my YapStar Message Center?
Your Message Center on YapStar is where all the emails you send and receive from other users are stored. The YapStar Message Center contains three folders: Inbox Messages, Sent Messages and Write A New Message. When you log in, you will be taken to your customized home page. Click on the link, "View Your Private Profile Page". Then click on the tab, "Messages" and you will be taken to your YapStar Message Center.

  • How do I know if I received a message?
When you have received a new private message, you will receive an email notification (unless you select not to receive emails in your Account Settings) and you'll see a notification in your Inbox on your Custom Home Page. On your home page, click on "You Have # Private Messages" to be taken to your Message Page. On This page you will see your Private Messages, your Compliments, your Requests to Join your Fan Club, and Responses to your PetTalk Questions. To view your Private Messages, click on the one you would like to view and you will be taken to your message Inbox. If a message is a new message, you will see the words "NEW" next to this message.

  • What happens when I message someone?
When you message someone, your message goes into his or her Inbox. There will be a notification on that person's Custom Home Page and they will receive an email notification (unless they selected not to receive emails in their Account Settings).

  • Can I send out a message to more than one user on YapStar?
Yes. In your Message Center in your Private Profile Pages, you can send a message to 20 of your Favorite Pets at a time. Just click on the Write Message Tab, and then click on "Click here to select one of your favorite pets". Select the Pets you would like to send a message to and click on "Send Private Message Now". We want to limit spam on our site, therefore you can only send 20 emails at a time.

  • Can I attach a file to a message?
No, you cannot attach a file to your message but you can include a link to web pages on the Internet.

  • I do not want to receive private messages. How can I stop them?
To stop all private messages, click on About Me and you will be taken to your Private Profile Section (you must be logged in), click on My Account Tab. Then click on Manage Email, and Manage Email Preferences. Here you will see a number of options to manage your YapStar communications. To stop receiving all communication from other users at YapStar including Private Messages, click on the checkbox next to: "Do not send me emails when I receive a compliment, a private message, requests to join my fan club, or for pet business and product recommendations."

  • How do I block people from sending me messages?
If you receive a message from someone and want to block them from sending you a message in the future, you can do this with our "Block User" feature. However, you can't block a user before they have sent you a message. Click on About Me, and you will be taken to your Private Profile Section (you must be logged in). Click on "Messages" and you will be taken to your Inbox. Click on any email you would like to view and you will be taken to the entire message. Below each message is a button, "Block User". Click on this button and this user will be blocked from sending you further messages. The person that is blocked will not be notified of this status. The messages they send you will simply not be delivered to you. If you decide at a later date you do want to start receiving emails from this person, you must have saved the message. Under this message the button will have changed to "Unblock User". Click on this button and the user will be able to send you messages in the future.

  • I keep sending someone a message but they never reply?
The user may not reply for a number of reasons. They may have selected the option in their Account Section to not receive any communication from users on YapStar or this user may have blocked you from sending messages. If someone chooses to no longer receive communication from users at YapStar or they have blocked your messages, they will have no way of knowing if you sent a message. If the user is someone you know how to contact in another way, you might check to see if they accidentally blocked you. To respect all user's privacy, YapStar cannot release this information to you.

  • How can I save messages I send in my sent messages folder?
When you write a message, you will see option below that message to Save A Copy in your Sent Messages Folder. Just click in that check box and your message will be saved. If you sent multiple friends the same message, only the message to your first friend will be saved.

  • I accidentally deleted a message. Can I get it back?
If you delete a Private Message in your YapStar Message Center you cannot recover it.

  • I'm unable to send or receive private messages. How do I fix this?
You must be logged in to Send Email Messages. If you are not receiving messages, check your My Account Tab in your Private Profile Pages. Click on Manage Email and then Manage Email Preferences. Make sure that the check box next to: "Do not send me emails when I receive a compliment, a private message, requests to join my fan club, or for pet business and product recommendations." is NOT selected.

  • Is there a time limit to how long messages will stay available in my InBox?
There is a time limit of 120 days for your messages in your INBOX. Messages older than this are not guaranteed to be kept on the site and can be removed at any time. Please save any messages that are important to you directly to your computer.
